Is this West Links Arbroath
This image from, I think, Angus Archives is labelled as showing West Links Bridge in Arbroath. However, the Google Earth image of the probable location shows slightly different bridge abutments but, more significantly, the view through the archway shows a house and what may be a sea wall. I wondered...

171 Class photos sought
I realise that I don't have a photo in my collection of either of the 171 Class 0-4-4Ts that worked over the Carmyllie Light Railway. They were mainly No.227 but No.176 occasionally deputised. I would really like to include a photo in the Dundee & Arbroath book - does anyone have a good quality ...

Arbroath Station image
This image of the new station at Arbroath from my collection appeared in my book on the Arbroath & Forfar Railway and I would like to use it again in my forthcoming Dundee & Arbroath book as it shows the changes in the rear of the booking office building on Keptie Street (which were signific...

Re: And where might this be?
Gagie opened in 1935. I appreciate that the pre-1928 livery on the locomotive doesn't preclude it being there after 1935 but, apart from the two huts and no grounded body, or sign of a Scotch derrick, there are another set of differences. I accept the fact that both sets of railings have four horizo...

Re: And where might this be?
It isn't Gagie on the Dundee to Forfar Direct line, which was my initial thought as a possibility, and it doesn't appear to be anywhere on the Carmyllie branch.

Re: Have I got the carriages right?
No it isn't dated, Mike. I wonder if it is a Sunday and is the curious Blairgowrie to Carnoustie via Dundee (Tay Bridge) station (the West station being closed on Sundays as a "pooling" financial arrangement) during the summer for a few years from 1933. I have the Carriage Marshalling Circ...

Have I got the carriages right?
This a an image from The Transport Treasury of a 439 Class 0-4-4T on a train of 65ft stock between West Ferry (visible in the background) and Broughty Ferry (the path on the left is on an area known as the Grassy Beach). The number of the locomotive is illegible. The first carriage is a 65ft non-cor...

Is this the original Dundee West?
This is an image from Dundee Library Photopolis site that is labelled as showing the Dundee and Arbroath Railway as seen from Craigie Pier. However, it has puzzled me for some time as, for it to show the western end of Trades lane Station, I think the perspective is wrong. Craigie Pier is shown in t...

That would seem to be it. I have the RM archive at the moment, I'll see if I can get a better copy. Thanks

Signal Tower Museum Images Appeal
Many years ago, when writing my Arbroath & Forfar Ry volume, I visited the old Signal Tower Museum on the seafront in Arbroath and, as well as acquiring quite a few images, I got photocopies of the catalogue index sheets, some of which had contact prints of the images. Some years ago the Signal ...

Re: Another location conundrum
Graham Just goes to show that One should look back to what one has previously said! The postcard view is very good and really helps explain things. I got confused by the relationship between the stream and the railway and need to go and get my Arbroath & Forfar book out of the loft and re-examin...

Another location conundrum
Many years ago I went through all the railway images held at the Signal Tower Museum in Arbroath (and there were quite a few). They are now with Forfar Archives at Restenneth BUT (and it is intentionally a big but) they did not retain the Signal Tower's index numbers, but gave them new ones and kept...

Another Unidentified D&A Location
Alan Brotchie has kindly supplied a number of super images for the book, but one or two have left me with problems regarding location. This one, I reckon, shows the southern end of Carnoustie Station looking out over Buddon Ness with what is now the Leisure Centre and Skateboard Park (but I would va...

Re: Where is it?
To show my point about the reconstruction of the canopy, here is an LMS era image with the former LNWR steam railmotor at the platform. The canopy has not just had the end valancing removed (which was my first thought) but appears to have undergone fairly major reconstruction.

Where is it?
I have just come across this print whilst searching for more Dundee & Arbroath images. The locomotive seems to be Class 66 4-4-0 No.84 (which was duplicated when Pickersgill Class 72 No.84 was built in 1921). The carriage to the right could be 57ft Diag 110 Corridor Bk 3rd No.515 (the number is ...

Re: Perth General Station
The two visible faces of the clock on the extreme right both seem to show the same time: 11.55. as does the right-hand clock face in the distant set of three (so that might be the correct time). Of the other two, the adjoining one seems to show 12.05 (or possibly 1.00) and the higher one 8.00. The p...

Engine Shed location
This is a photo from the late Peter James' collection It shows Drummond 0-4-4T as LMS 15104. This locomotive worked the Carmyllie branch from 1923 until it was scrapped but also worked on the Arbroath and Forfar line. Where is it? It could be Forfar shed, or Arbroath, or even, possibly, Dundee West ...
