No clear indication but there is a cottage and a structure next to the line.

Re: Moving the trains through Perth

I've certainly never been accused of being a Unionist (I assumed they were all NB people from Edinburgh anyway) and must say I found the video very interesting and informative. Well done to all involved.

Now that the pilot episode has been seen, the question is, will this become a series?

Gagie was my first thought. Clearly with different structures from (I think) the 1961 Transport Treasury pictures but this picture must have been taken many years earlier. Might it have recorded the halt shortly after opening in 1936?

Re: Have I got the carriages right?

<t>Niall, sorry I can't help with the coaches but to clarify the location, I think the train is approaching West Ferry from Dundee but the station is to the East of Douglas Terrace which puts it beyond this area. With the curve in the background I suspect that is the Broughty Ferry Road bridge at St...

Indeed yes Graham. The circular appendage is clearly shown on the map as Craig Pier House. It also means that the substantial warehouse to the right is situated on Craig Street itself.

Re: Is this the original Dundee West?

Niall it is certainly the view from around Craig Pier looking northwest towards Nethergate with St Andrews RC in the background. Notice the the high alter has not yet been built over the lower structure to the rear. The church opened in 1836. Might the pillar at the central building not in fact be a...

It does indeed still exist. It remains as per the photograph, sadly out of use.

There are a couple of interesting things that I note in this thread. The first being that the footbridge, or at least a footbridge was still there in recent times. I must go past and see if it remains. E_Dock_St_-_Google_Maps.jpg I had also not realised that the extension of East Dock Street was bui...

Re: Kirriemuir Branch Line

The Kirrie branch had the distinction of being served not only by CR and subsequently LMS freights, but also by NB/LNE freights though I am unsure whether foreign locos would have dealt with any of the traffic to and from the three public sidings. From time to time I revisit this thread and notice ...

Is it not that the turntable is sitting perpendicular to Dock Street? The signals for the main line are shown face on. In the 25 inch map they are sitting to the east of the turntable. Are these still supplied without castings? If so can you suggest sources?

The supply of CR bits is somewhat vulnerable at present.

Indeed Jim, the current costs are around £50 each which is pretty much in line with other similar kits. It does though mean that they are available. Personally I am not in the least bit interested in how the kit is produced, I am simply looking for a shortcut as an alternative to scratch building th...

The "Patterns" for 7mm are probably beyond my expertise, but for a person with no knowledge of this technique, how do you make a Pattern? Maybe others are asking themselves the same question, but if not, I would like to know what is required and the process in Pattern Making. From a 7mm M...

Don't believe everything you read in modern books. The HMRS LNWR Livery Register implies that LNWR Gunpowder vans were grey. In reality they might have been grey at one time but there is no evidence of that, and lots of evidence that they were red! Mike The LNWR books quote them as red until 1912 w...

TLM and 7mm

The current availability of rolling stock kits for modellers working in 7mm is somewhat limited. The Association, through TLM, has done well to address the equivalent issue in 4mm, but there remains a real lack of provision for those of us who are working in 7mm. The following comment from a post ma...

The suggestion on Western Thunder that it may be north of Newcastle led me to contact a friend with some knowledge of the area. I got this reply; It’s an interesting wooden footbridge design, but it’s certainly not the classic North Eastern Railway profile. The brick building in the background doesn...
