Re: Bachmann porthole stock blue/grey

Whilst on the phone to Rails about the 812 Class sound, I enquired about how well the Bachmann blue/grey Portholes were selling. The brake ends are 80% sold and the Seconds are 75% sold. Amazing considering the price so its unlikely that they will have large stocks left to shift at discounted prices...

Re: CR 812 Class from Rails

Rails have sent out emails last week advising availability of limited numbers of the forthcoming Bachmann 812 Class locos with sound. On phone this morning, they tell me that the files used are believed to be genuine CR locos files and that an upgrade of order is possible. Does anyone know the sourc...

Re: Unidentified Location and Carriages and Possibly Company

Would have to disagree with you on the TLR camera. My Grandpa was a keen photographer and used to do his own developing and printing. He experimented with tints at this stage, sepia, nice, red and green, a bit gawdy. He had a fine collection of TLR cameras and two of them dated back to the 1880s. Hi...

Re: Unidentified Location and Carriages and Possibly Company

Yes, I went down the coast line on maps and couldnt find a match but didnt get any further. I had wondered about writing sandwiched between photo and postcard, is there any evidence of this? Looking again at the 1962 photo of Guthrie, there is a road to the right of the sidings which curves away as ...

Re: Unidentified Location and Carriages and Possibly Company

There doesnt seem to be any track or platform edge on the right of the subject photo, just a path and trees. There seems to be too many sidings at Guthrie, but the next station along, Glasterlaw, looks interesting. Signal Box and Signal PostS a fair way from the station, footbridge and a path or ope...

Re: Unidentified Location and Carriages and Possibly Company

Ive edited part of that photo again, its about as far as I can take it now. It certainly looks like a signal box and on the opposite side of the line from the platform viewpoint. It also looks like there is a junction signal near the 'box, passing loop on single line?. Footbridge is slatted with cro...

Re: Unidentified Location and Carriages and Possibly Company

The handwriting is the same hand for the address, message, and photo title. How unusual is it make your own postcard by sticking a photo to a blank postcard? Ive never come across this before although I do have examples of photos taken, eg portrait or residence, where prints are provided in the form...

Re: Caledonian Railway Dwelling House, Harthope

Afternoon all, Darned plasticard. Its biggest failing is it being proned to warping. Laminated built like a battleship walls are not totally immune, both rear upstairs window apexes have warped outwards slightly, not sure exactly why but discovered when making a start to fitting roof. Originally the...

Re: Ebay warning

Yes, c13% as private seller. It was 10% ebay and 2.9% Paypal. Gosh that is a staggering turnover, one would think that such a huge company should be able to run their business without without the constant major crashes and other major problems that seems to be the norm, hence the warning not to link...

Re: Caledonian Railway Dwelling House, Harthope

Kitchens fitted out with what is going in, must have been asleep when fitting that partition! It wont show. All the LEDs now have diffusers, even on 4.2v they were far too bright and also tended to shine through some walls and partitions. Might give a lesser voltage adaptor a try. D-sub-miniature co...

Re: Ebay warning

Its no wonder that some people will try to deal off ebay directly with each other. What can be safer than physically seeing an item and working out a cash price? But ebay tell you this is not a safe practise and that the items dont qualify for ebay Buyers/sellers protection. But I feel all they are...

Re: Ebay warning

BTW: Meant to mention last week that the eBay 'Managed Payments' process is fundamentally flawed. eBay takes the money for your sales, deducts commission and passes the balance on either a daily or weekly basis to your bank account. Fair enough so far if we ignore the level the commission BUT you n...

Re: Ebay warning

I still havent received any official notification about Managed Payments although some people have received emails, but every time ebay has a major change like this, it ends up a disaster as per last weekend. Its a story repeated over and over, for a National and multi-national company, they are not...

Ebay warning

Morning all, With the lack of local availability and lockdown combined, I do much of my modelling purchases online these days. This will affect us all. I have been very wary of ebay for several years. I hinted at this recently in a post on Photo Clydebank Riverside building. It started when they app...

Re: Caledonian Railway Dwelling House, Harthope

Very effective, nice job. Silhouette cutter is one of those things on the wants list but I tend to do things the hard way. If a really large quantity of something was required then maybe. Closest Ive got is an NWSL Chopper 2 and various homemade jigs.

Re: Harthope Viaduct occupation underpass

Problem solved even more effectively. To the right of 237e is a side-on view of the Double Bend sign which was the replacement of a smaller sign nearer the cottages, brought forwards, enlarged and with a sighting board, presumably yellow, behind after the 1955 triple fatal accident on the corner. It...

Re: CR 812 Class from Rails

I have just had a look at the CAD pictures posted in September. I am not sure how accurate these are as a portrayal of the model as it will eventually appear but one thing does worry me. The outside faces of the splashers and the cab side do not appear to line up. Is this evidence that the splasher...

Re: Caledonian Railway Dwelling House, Harthope

I now use DL-Limonene exclusively. Because it is less aggressive, I find I need to apply some to both mating surfaces, wait a few seconds, then apply a second coat to one surface before bringing them together. It has a slightly 'citrous' smell, but I would still use it in a well ventilated space. T...

Re: Caledonian Railway Dwelling House, Harthope

That would all seem to be coming along nicely. Does the grandfather clock tick? Regarding downpipes, what about trying tube or wire with fine wire (from Rioja wine bottles) run round twice to represent joints? The tails on the wire twisted together and soldered can then be used to secure them to th...

Thanks Alan, thats one Ive not heard of before, bottle ordered! Re: Caledonian Railway Dwelling House, Harthope

Many thanks for the great advice, as always. Allan K also suggested a similar method on CR Cottagers. All impressive work. Problem Ive got is everything on the building is plasticard orientated and it makes sense to use similar, certainly for the gutters, especially as parts of the wall behind the g...

Evening all, Just a wee progress report. All doors and windows finished, only the bays (right on the photo) were made as per previous posts, all the back and side windows were made by tweeking Wills SS42 to vary height and width. The bay windows at Auchencastle originally had 3 pane wide sashes, but...

Re: CR 812 Class from Rails

Evening all,

I spoke to Rails Saturday about another order and also enquired if there was any news about the Bachmann 812 class. Unofficially, they are expecting them to arrive 2nd quarter of 2021 so not long off.

Hope they live up to expectations.
