Re: Caledonia Models?

Did they move to a drafty corner in a complex beside the bus station? I still have a couple of transfer crests I bought from them sometime in the 1960s.(

Re: CR 812 Class from Rails

To be honest the price of a DJH jumbo with motor and wheels is close to £300 and then you've got to botch sorry build it yourself, paint it and line it. If there are other CR releases at the £200 mark I'll be first in the queue.

Re: To line or not to line

That's a remarkable job in 2mm Jim but to be honest looking at the picture which I think is a bout the same distance-wise as looking at a model on a layout I cannot see the yellow/brass lining.

To line or not to line

I have been grappling with this for some years now and I confess that I do not have the mathematics to fully explain it. But what I am asking is whether it is better to line coaches or not. I don't see specifications for the yellow lining in Mike Williams book but in Casserley's WCJS he states that ...

The price is eyewatering. How does it cost twice as much to paint a coach blue and grey rather than crimson and cream?

LNWR Carriages

There is a tantalising reference in David Jenkinson's "LNWR Carriages - a Concise History" to several types of LNWR coaches (not WCJS diagrams) being dual fitted to work over CR lines. Did LNWR coaches work over CR lines? Perhaps pressed into service on WCJS trains at times of pressure? Th...

Re: 4 and 6 wheel coaches

The newly announced Hornby 6 wheel coaches appear to be a closer match for the diagram 8 at first look. I cant see the dimensions and the LNWR 5 compartment third might be a useful donor although they are also producing a NBR which might be more satisfactory to repaint!

You've left the condensing pipe from the smokebox to the side tank brass. Is this correct or have you not finished painting it? Just about to embark on a similar project.

Caley Raws

Something sparked a memory of growing up in Motherwell in the 50s. There was a rather unsalubrious collection of houses clustered round the engine shed known as the Caley Raws. Whether these housed the families of company servants or were for overnight lodgings I am not sure. Other locations must ha...

Re: Building Ideas Requested

Here are some drawings you might find useful. The Northern signalboxes and the Southern signalboxes are completely different. I was disappointed with the Bachmann model and have replaced mine with laser etched ones (in latest True Line). I have also done some panels to modify the Kibri brick built b...

Re: 812/652 Class 3D Prints in development

I've been mulling in my head that we could increase our locomotive stock by building condensing versions of other kits. To my eyes the difference is a couple of pipes, a U shaped effort on top of the bunker and an L shaped one on the boiler. Could this 3D printing produce these and how can I have th...

Re: Loco lining

Sorry me again. I wasn't too happy with previous efforts so I'm investigating commissioning some transfers from Fox. I'm thinking about the splashers on 439 and 171 classes in particular. Does anyone already have exact measurements either in full size or in 00 for these before I drive myself mad try...
