Maybe standards were slipping later on, this image of St Fillans suggests a somewhat less strict adherance (pragmatic ?) towards the use of brick styles.

Re: Point operation at Brechin
Maybe better to think of it as two trap points, albeit preventing both being reversed at once.
Then each route can be treated much as per the end of a goods loop.
A brief internet hunt has not found a Brechin Station SB diagram (CRA disk has Brechin North Jn)

Re: Cove Level Crossing
Was AHB for a while (1980's) before converting to full barrier and CCTV. Was that conversion the 1996 change ? Assume that was either due to higher road traffic or to allow a rail line speed increase - AHB are not permitted for linespeeds over 100mph IIRC Would it have been AHB right through from be...

Thread from the past time.... Thanks to a 1960 WTT from John Paton I have been using, here is the 1960 lineup for Bells yard and Polmadie up. As can be seen several trips are in the WTT. However their other parts are not, so for example the WTT shows no trips into Renfrew / Shieldhall at all, but 3 ...

In case you have not yet found the 25"/mile 1899 map that is online from NLS :
https://maps.nls.uk/view/82874757
Track layout, platform lengths, building locations / shapes, signal posts.
Do note that these may have some timeframe inaccuracies as OS did not always re-survey railways.

Most interesting having visited Peebles the other day. The West station site has recently been cleared of some (later) buildings. See Google Streetview which was updated July 2021. The deep link images referred to above no longer work and now redirect to a higher level page. Those wanting to view th...

Re: And the last of my photo puzzles for the moment
Looking at John Young's Strathearn book, plate 3.14 shows the Gleneagles - Crieff pole route to similar to that in the photo. But plate 10.34 shows the Crieff line embankment just out of Gleneagles to be higher and the ground undulating. Perhaps same line but different place - the approach to Crief...

Taking the point about telegraph wires, and the cut off last vehicle looks like a brake so a shortish train.
Crieff line just out of Gleneagles about to cross over the A9 ?
Hills seem an OK match

Maybe a lamp so that the driver would know where the turntable centre was at night to stop in the right place ?
then someone then broke the lamp and replaced it with something that could be 'lit' or just something brighter

Request - Polmadie / Shields area freight WTT 1960's
Has anyone got a scanned copy of freight workings covering Polmadie / Eglinton / Shields from the 1960's ? Failing that arrange the loan of a paper one that, if agreeable, I would scan for CRA use and return ? I think it is mainly a Section B that is of interest, although 'Section A' would also be h...

Re: Another mystery location to keep our brains active!
Elsewhere the Dolphinton branch does not look like 'structure for double' https://goo.gl/maps/6zbfvmcFgLAETFHh9 Both Uplawmoor and the Dolphinton location may have too much flat & level land beyond the tracks when compared to the image. For the photo being Uplawmoor, I would have expected the ma...

Re: Another mystery location to keep our brains active!
The terrain match is indeed good, but a problem with this location is that the image would be taken across over the site of 'Caldwell' station, which was the reason for the road realignment to north & west. Everything suggests that Caldwell station opened with the line south of Neilston (Low) / ...

Maybe Blantyre - East Kilbride ?
Built as single track on double structures, and there is this bridge:

All now under the expressway road.

Judging by the position of the soot on the bridge, it is a line 'single with structures for double' rather than a pure single track as designed.

On the TL map (1864 survey) there is a small pink rectangle in the vee of the junction, did you work out what that was ? It may be about the right size for a covered frame, certaily the right place. Stanley Jn layout (TTL150)
The excellent article raises the question of how the unusual layout at Stanley Jn came about, with right hand running for HR services. https://www.railscot.co.uk/img/7/377/ One widely held view was a need to hold HR services clear of the main CR lines for regulation purposes, given the likely late r...

Ballachulish line gradients
I have drawn a blank on finding the gradenit diagram for the Ballachulish branch, apart from a few comments of 'there weren't many', which is fair enough for large parts of the branch. However there were clearly some such as north of Connel bridge as well as around Creagan, Duror and Ballachulish Fe...
