Interesting research. Another one for the to-do list.

Re: Partick Central (KelvinHall) Station

Some excellent photos of Partick central there, I do wish I had room to model it all properly.

I think I used an ornamental bracket lamp made by Viessmann.

Re: New kit- 1870 Metropolitan Horse Box

The horsebox is now finished and in service. I rather like the way it has come out, though perhaps the brown livery might be described as ageing a bit. Many thanks to Ross for making the kit available. cr hb 1870 2 1 cra.jpeg Some further pictures and build notes in my blog; https://www.rmweb.co.uk/...

Re: New kit- 1870 Metropolitan Horse Box

Thanks Ross, I'd agree that adding a through pipe is likely and easily modelled.

The kit is now at the painting stage. I added a couple of curved handrails at the steps end.

Re: New kit- 1870 Metropolitan Horse Box

I picked one up at the SECC on Saturday and have made a start on cleaning the print up. Are there any details about brakes for these a bit later on, perhaps into the early Edwardian era ? Perhaps piped but not fitted ? I have also looked at all the photos I can find but not one of the compartment en...

I also enjoyed reading that excellent article John.

The idea of a masonry "crash barrier" to protect the steelwork makes sense to me.

A very interesting picture. As mentioned I am surprised that the surface of so many tiles have spalled, it would be a relatively new building in 1909.

That looks pretty good and a welcome option for anyone modelling the area.

Given the number of people who have asked where I got the kits for my tenements from there should be a healthy demand.

Re: blue spray paint

Might just be my eye Graham, but it loots a bit metallic to me. ( Not that my eye is all that reliable these days )

I use VW indian blue. I acquired a few cans a long time ago, no idea if it is still available. Looks like this, but I wouldn't claim it is correct.

Re: White wheel rims.

Well, I ended up on that topic in RMweb too Jim. If CR engineering wagons were a different colour then surely over the years someone would have said so ? I have never read any reference that suggests they were in anything other than red oxide. That said my experience of red oxide in historic buildin...

A friend sent me a scan of a stores dispatch note. All very mundane items, but I did notice two sets of goods van keys.

Re: Pre-Drummond Open Wagon

The issue I find with the TLM wagons is that resin models are very light. So I made a crate from styrene sheet and filled it with some lead sheet. Properly roped down the load is actually the load. Pictures on here are small but this gives an idea; https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blogs/...

Re: New Range of Wagon Transfers in 4mm

This is my first try with the CRA transfers, a pair of D21 loco coal wagons. D21 cra.JPG I read up on alps type transfers and followed the instructions carefully. I would emphasise the need for a gloss varnish coat. I painted this on, though spraying would I think give a flatter finish. The transfer...

Re: Pug Tender

The shade looks fine to me .

I have had a go at a faded livery a few times. Might sound a bit odd but humbrol 100 ( red brown ) mixed with humbrol 61 (flesh) gives a nice pinkinsh faded colour.

Re: Diagram 59 wagon query

Ah, my mistake Alan. I see the bits you mean. Like you I replaced the solid ones with a bit of scrap etch. Could be a catch, but I did wonder if they acted as a door banger if the end didn't quite come down straight after the wagon was tipped ? I'm sure you are right about the brakes, many must have...

Re: Diagram 59 wagon query

I had the same question when I built a pair. I think they are sheet rings. Looking in the wagon book, the 1903 drawing and the build photo of the first 1000 Hurst Nelson wagons doesn't have them. However the 1905 drawing with the modified end door and the build photo of the next 1000 wagons quite cl...
