Station Footbridge Colour Scheme
I wonder if anyone can help with this issue? I am trying to working out which colour(s) to use for the painting of a representation of the footbridge at Biggar station. My assumption is that it should be all purple-brown/burnt umber, but a couple of photos cast a bit of doubt. This extract from a co...

John Boyle Etches - station furniture
Hi As many of you will know, John's etches for 6-wheeled carriage bodies included a small section of extras - station furniture. John Boyle station furniture small.jpg There is no reference to these components in the instructions, but I've managed to work out the drinking fountain and the seat, but ...

Re: Bachmann CR 812 Class 3F
Another couple of queries about the as built version. I was assuming (possibly wrongly) that it would be in the dark blue livery. It's not altogether clear, but I get the impression that the light blue wasn't applied routinely to new build locomotives until into the 20th century. (Light blue actuall...

Re: Class 670 kit
Thanks again for the kind comments. In answer to Tony's questions, the paint is a 50/50 blend of the Railmatch and Precision Caley light blues. I found the Precision one too dull and the Railmatch a bit too lurid. The latter seems a good representation of the paint used on number 419 after its recen...

Re: Loco lining
It's been a while - sorry! Here is a photo of a comparison between the Modelmaster and Fox Transfers 4mm LNER lining. The centre loco has the Modelmaster whilst the other two have Fox. I definitely prefer the Fox version as the white is less prominent. The photo also compares the RailMatch Caley lig...

Re: Class 670 kit
Hi all and thanks for the helpful replies to my question about class 670 cab front lining. In light of the photos that people have kindly found, I have decided to simply run the line up to the black part of the roof as per photo of 14A .that Dave L posted. I'm off now to continue with the lining pro...

Hi Jim
Many thanks for posting the photo and for your research. I'll look at these photos myself and think about it - it will be a while yet before I have to make a decision.
That really is a terrific model you made. I have no idea how you manage it in 2mm! Full of admiration!!
Cheers

Re: Class 670 kit
Thanks Jim and Graham for posting the photos of the class 670 models – I’ve found these very helpful in progressing with mine. As I move forward with the loco body, my thoughts are turning to painting and lining. I will be trying to represent the loco in the lighter blue livery in the 1910s, but am ...

Re: Could Glenoglehead crossing box be switched out ?
Generally, signalling regulations allow for shunting into single line sections following the departure of a train into that section without gaining authority from the signalman at the other end. On the other hand, if the section is clear, then taking a token out or blocking back is required. The onl...

Re: Could Glenoglehead crossing box be switched out ?
A quick look at the 1950 signal diagram here: http://www.oban-line.info/gd1/gd1.html shows no signals for down movements on the up loop, so it seems unlikely that it could be switched out or that routine use of the up loop in the down direction would be allowed. Was it changed before closure? Cheers...

Re: Ballest over turnout sleepers
Timber Tracks do 4mm NER interlaced sleeper bases in laser cut ply for 1:8 turnouts (http://www.timbertracks.co.uk/index.php ... y&path=8_9). I used them with C&L components and the results look good to my untutored eye.
Best of luck with whatever approach toy choose.

I'm convinced by the Polish eagle idea. I also agree that the plate behind the drawhook is a full diamond.
I've also never noticed a burnished edge on a smokebox without wing plates before - perhaps I'm just not observant.

Re: Loco lining
Has anyone tried Fox Transfers LNER lining? I've just bought a set to try and it arrived today. It's difficult to judge when on the baking paper, but it might be finer than the Modelmaster equivalent. I'll post a photo when I've tried it out on my next effort (Caley Coaches Class 104), but don't hol...

Re: Yellow drop flap signals
After posting the question the other day, I did a little more digging into some other info I had. I found the attached diagram on page 255 of Railway Signal Engineering (Mechanical), by Leonard Lewis 1912 (available as a Google download). It seems to be one possibility for the two lever frame. If it...
