Re: Caledonia Models?

Anderson Centre : fairly certain that 'Model Rail' was held here in 1987 - we had just elected Duncan Burton to be our Chairman and it was here that Duncan met most of the other volunteers on the committee - Duncan had been in Hong Kong over winter 1986-87, so sent his apologies to the AGM. The foll...

I live in Giffnock, roughly 3/4 mile south from Thornliebank station, so have accessed the 'Railscot' web-site f...

Dummy Van. John Boyle’s line drawing of the Dummy Van was first published way back in April 1989 and launched at an exhibition the Association attended at Couper Institute, Cathcart, Glasgow. Further references & correspondence upon the use and name of the van’s title have appeared within ‘TTL’ ...

Re: Beetlecrusher drawings

Hi Jim, Thanks for the welcome reminder of this article. John Sinclair’s work is still extremely valuable to this day. Likewise, the relevant sections of Campbell Cornwell’s ‘Caledonian Railway Locomotives’, especially the paragraph at bottom left of page 235, confirms the name of ‘Braby Pugs’. What...

Locomotive Drawings CD. When the Locomotive Drawings Service was launched way back in Nov.’84, using the line drawings supplied by W.D.Stewart, sad to say, the 498 class 0-6-0T ‘Beetlecrusher/Braby Pug’ was one of the few ‘modern’ Caley engines which Willie had not done, hence there never was one to...

Dumfries : I would suggest that this is the location and the G&SWR loco shed area thereat. Please see ‘LMS Loco Sheds, vol.7 – the G&SWR’, pages 52-67 inclusive. Note the sheer legs, along with the twin tool vans adjacent the yard lamp.

Not a 'pure' Caledonian subject matter, but fascinating nevertheless: ‘BackTrack’, May ’22, pages 27-275, contained a fascinating account by Mike Fenton on the origins of the LMS move to ‘caravan’ or ‘camping’ coaches in the early 1930’s. Willie Stewart’s fine 7mm scale drawing of the locomotive and its 3,000 gallon tender should still be available from the Association, albeit on a CD.
