Caledonian Railway Footbridges

During a conversation with a fellow researcher the subject of footbridges came up. This is somet6hing I don't know a lot about myself. Can anybody help with the following: 1. Did the CR cast their own footbridge parts at St Rollox or buy them in from a foundry elsewhere? 2. Were they sent out as a k...

Re-run of Previous TLM Kits

At the AGM we discussed the feasibility of re-running one or more of the earlier TLM kits. This is now made possible as the CRA Committee has agreed to meet the cost of holding some stocks of un-sold wagon kits. There are significant fixed costs to meet so I need sufficient committed orders to ensur...

Re: True Line Models up-date

Prompted by David's post here is an up date. We have decided to proceed with a kit for the pre-Drummond open wagon, Wagon Book page 192. The manufacturers have advised that the proposed sheep raves would require a separate mould. This would double the cost of the wagon bodies so we have decided aga...

Re: True Line Models up-date

Thanks Jim I have been trying to reply to the points made by Douglas. TLM was originally conceived as a service for CRA members. We have kept it small, neat and cheap for this purpose. We do sell to non-members who discover TLM on the website and at exhibitions at marked up prices. We could attempt ...

Re: GCR 2-8-0 on coal train

I am intrigued by what appears to be a long mineral train going north from Perth on the Caley main line. Full coal wagons did reach Perth via the NBR from Fife but this was mainly for landsale. Wagons for the HR would have been marshalled into HR trains and for the Strathmore main line and Caley bra...

Re: Resurrecting a Class 171 Etch?

I had a 171 etch from John Boyle that was in brass and body only. This was surplus to my own requirements and I traded it to Mike Williams a few years ago. I don't remember John telling me of anybody else's involvement in this project. I guess Mike still has the etch and if anybody wants to see it M...

Re: True Line Models up-date

Greetings to everyone from New Zealand. Yes I am really here and won't be able to do much on TLM until my return. Almost my first activity on my return is to get up to Carlisle for the AGM. A few more pre-orders have come in since I last reviewed progress and we might be near the magic number for on...

Re: True Line Models up-date

Up-date on up-date So far none of the wagons proposed has attracted anywhere near sufficient support to proceed, i.e. 25-30 units. This is very disappointing as there are a lot of regular customers for TLM in the CRA who have not yet responded. Can I ask everybody to reply to the Forum so we make s...

Further options

Mike Williams has reminded me that he originally proposed to include removable raves for the pre-Drummond open to convert it to a sheep carrier.

He also proposed a earlier brake van c.1870s. Would you please also indicate your interest in the brake van.

Roof Door Van

Allan and everybody

We will probably follow the format already used by Bill Bedford on his LNWR van of a one piece body with a separate moulding for the roof incorporating all the relevant detail.

True Line Models up-date

There has been no progress with new kts from True Line Models as the last two suggestions, a pre-Drummond loco coal wagon and open goods wagon, did not attract sufficient support to proceed. In the meantime other projects have been considered and we now have a range of options. I think the pre-Drumm...

I suspect I am like many members - I don't use facebook, I don't perceive that have a need for it and consequently I don't know what it involves. I am aware of some of the problems experienced by users. The obvious question to ask is what would be the effect on the quality of the Forum? Would it add...

TLM D59 Brake Etches Those of you who follow the Forum TLM section and are sharp on maths will have worked out that I have a number of D59 8' 6" brake etches spare. These are useful for LMS period modellers who want to model their wagons with brakes on both sides and may be suitable for other purpo...

Pre- Drummond Wagon to K Werrett drawing. I built this wagon many years ago. The correct buffers with stepped bases were not available at the time and this is fitted with the standard turned brass buffers that I used then. The w-irons, springs and axleboxes were all from plastikard. How patient we w...

CR Station Foorbridfges

Somebody has asked me where the Caley cast iron footbridges were manufactured.

I guess these were to a standard design and probably some, if not all, were made at St Rollox works and assembled on site . Do we have a drawing?

Can anybody help?

Re: Next TLM Project

Mike - Thanks for the offer to make a pattern for the cask wagon,. I've had an email from David Elvy saying that he and Ross Burns are working on a cask wagon kit in 4mm and 7mm scales. So we won't progress that as a TLM project. The pre-Drummond goods wagon with optional sheep pens looks a good opt...
