Hello,
I curious if there may be information on when CR 123 was reboilered and what CR class the boiler is from for modeling purposes?

Kris,
I am not an expert on this locomotive, but I thought the new boiler was one of those for the 0-4-4T engines of the 439/431 classes.
Someone will correct me, I feel sure.

Kris,
Rather to my surprise, it appears that no one has corrected my (unsubstantiated) belief that it was a boiler from a 439 class.
Strange that for such a well-known engine so little detail seems to be available. Perhaps something more will emerge yet.

Jim,
To my knowledge it was a spare "Jumbo " boiler that was fitted? There were suggestions made in the Railway Magazine that MacIntosh had earlier considered fitting a larger Dunalastair 1 boiler in Caley days.

I've also heard that they used a spare Jumbo boiler and after re boilering the 66 class with the Dunalastair boiler it would make sense to consider the same with No. 123 which other than the wheel arrangement was a lot like a standard 66 class but I wonder if the taller wheels and the associated chassis behind the these had some bearing on the decision. Would the bigger boiler have come into conflict with these bigger wheels hence the reason this was not carried out?lms14509 wrote:Jim,
