A photograph planned for the forthcoming book on CR419 requires the location at which it was taken to be identified.

Any suggestions?Engine shed query
Re: Engine shed query
I think this could be Carstairs with the engine on one of the turntable roads. The roof seen between the dome cover and chimney would be the goods shed and the other houses to the right would be on Strawfrank Road.

Re: Engine shed query
Not convinced about Carstairs.
Looking from the turntable roads to the goods shed over the end of the platform there were no houses to the right of the goods shed.
The nearest house is the station master's house adjacent to the station hotel opposite the station entrance.

Re: Engine shed query
The loco was allocated to Dalry Road at December 1945 and as far as I can discover was there until mid 1952 when it transferred to Polmadie. I'm sure this is not Polmadie and logically the probable location is Dalry Road. However I struggle to tie this up with the 25 inch OS or with photos which I know to be Dalry Road.

Hello Jim,
This is a shot on Railscot showing similar tenements in background in the correct position. They are quite distinctive in the 55189 shot with the chimney stack parallel to the road, and some "T" shaped too.

The current view of Dalry Road shows even better matching tenements with the same stacks and mix of single and double windows, but they are not the same block. I expect these in your shot are now away. The bridge on the left was formerly railway and ran past the sheds.

Hope this helps, Paul.

Re: Engine shed query
The new Dalry Road book also adds weight to the argument for this as the location. On page 60 is an aerial view of the shed and I think we can conclude 55189 is on the second or third of the dead-end roads between the shed and Dalry Road itself. The bit of wooded ground to the left of the picture corresponds with this photograph and beyond it lay the Dalry Cemetery, while the houses themselves are on Dalry Road and at the end of Murieston Crescent. Between the engine and the Dalry Road of course was the main line, obscured by the Birmingham private owner wagon.

Thanks for all the replies, the book has now been completed with this picture captioned as Dalry Road.
