Preserved Caledonian Coaches at Boness'

Post by Victorian_Lad » Thu Sep 07, 2017 10:44 pm

Hello,
I was curious what coaches are the ones that CR 123 used to pull in the 1950s-60s that are at BoNess and where I could find them in the Caledonian Railway Carriages Book?

Kris,
You might find this helpful:

I am involved with carriage restoration at Bo'ness, so if you want any details photographed or detailed measurements, maybe I can help. The vehicles are at present under cover, not normally visible to the public, and only come out for filming or special occasions. They are due for some attention in the next year or so to maintain their still fine appearance.

I'll leave Mike Williams to answer about the book references, but I do remember taking a picture of one of the ashtrays which he wanted and published in the book.

Here are the carriages being shunted (by steam) at Bo'ness today, preparatory to use in the Steam Gala this weekend.

Good to see the coaches out of the RCB.
Sorry I missed them but decanting the contents of my loft and garage into boxes prior to moving house (again!) next Friday takes precedence
