Mystery loco at Denny

Post by John Paton » Thu Oct 31, 2019 1:01 pm

I am working with John Boyle in preparing a True Line article on Denny station. John mentioned to me that he could not identify the type of locomotive featured in the attached photo. He has referred to "Baxter's List of Scottish Locomotives" but cannot find reference to a locomotive numbered 196 that fits the loco in the photo.

Can anyone help us?

Thanks,

John Paton

The Locomotive is a Class 80, built in 1891 to Y28, with a larger boiler than had been used by Drummond for the original batch, the locomotive was rebuilt in 1907 and I suggest it is in the later light blue livery.
