Afternoon all,

This fantastic footage has just appeared on youtube, West Coast Main Line Drivers Eye View, Glasgow Central to Manchester Airport. 82000+ views in a week!

Of particular note are Derek Cross bridge at c47mins, Beattock summit at c51mins, the Orrible UIC thing which replaced Harthope Viaduct at c53mins, and the three remaining CR dwelling houses, Auchencastle at c56mins, and the two at Kirkpatrick Fleming, c1hour14mins and c1hour15 mins. Its so sad when you see how much industry and railway establishments etc (and character) has gone since the 60s when we lived up there.

However, enjoy.

Really great, Paul. I only wish that my 15.08 departure yesterday had gone as smoothly. Class 350 arrives from the south into Central at 15.12. Train leaves from Platform 2 at 15.20. Reaches the end of the platform and stops. Emergency brake has been applied. Train reverses to buffers so that the train system can be completely reset. Various comments from passengers like "it works for computers, why not trains." Except that it doesn't work and the train is declared a failure - so we board the 16.00 Pendolino and are advised to change at Warrington. I decided to get off at Carlisle to catch the next Transpennine ex Edinburgh. This arrives Manchester Piccadlily on time. My connection to Huddersfield then suffered 20 minutes delay en route.

Never mind, I get two delay repays on one trip!

Best

Mike

Used to train up to Glasgow regularly, only one time I can remember sumat wrong, 1966/67. We were coming out of Glasgow behind a Black 5 on compartment stock. It couldnt make the grade up to Wishaw Central and stalled over the A721 Glasgow Road and couldnt restart. Virtually everyone got off the train and scrambled down the bank but not me and Dad. I was up for it. So we sat there and waited for a Motherwell Class 20 to arrived and shove the whole cavalcade. BR days, no recompense.

The only other time was many years later in the 80s after exile, mainline train to Glasgow to see family. Cant for love remember what went wrong but we were very late with an ailing loco and the guard came round telling us to detrain at Carstairs, there would be a special from Glasgow waiting to take us onwards. Carstairs, pulls in behind a 303 EMU set !!!!! and I DIDNT PHOTOGRAPH IT. As soon as we pulled in another mainline train came in alongside and station staff guided us to that one instead. Presumably mainline was backed up behind us. Just got on and my! didnt we rocket hell for leather to Glasgow. i dont think I had ever travelled that line so fast until then, and at Glasgow went to have a wee look, veteran 81011 at the end of her days and not noramlly used on front line work. Well impressed.

But thats some fine footage of a view not normally seen to the public. A couple of screenshots of Auchencastle too, giving a good angle of those bay windows roofs, working on at mo! :D :D

There's another one just put up - a class 350 from Carlisle to Edinburgh. Very considerately, it's part 3 of the whole journey from Manchester Airport, so we can just look at the Scottish bit of the trip.
