Can anyone tell me if this Gradient post is Caledonian or later maybe LMS its Reputed to have been "rescued" from a Caledonian line soon after it closed

Looks pure Caledonian to me, made from a single piece of decent, thick wood - which is why they lasted so well. There's more pictures and an official drawing of one in Jim Summers' Operating, Part 2 new book. Your picture looks just like the ones in my own collection. By the way, the C. & O. had ones of markedly different design - smaller boards, in two halves, with smaller cast-iron figures.
