"Kirkallanmuir"

Post by Graham R » Sun Aug 13, 2017 7:34 pm

CRA member Jim Watt is well known (in the relevant circles, at least!) for his 2mm finescale Caley models, so it may be of interest to mention that his latest layout "Kirkallanmuir", inspired by the South Lanarkshire mineral lines, is progressing well. His fellow 2mm Scale Association area group members had a viewing session this weekend, and there are a few photos on the group's blog here, half-way down the page.

regards
Graham

Since Graham has blown my cover and Steve is looking for the next update, the warehouse is now completed. If anyone is interested it can be seen here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... try2864265 .

Stunning stuff Jim. I was also pleased to see the mention of Blairgowrie. Keep up the good work.

For anyone whose interested, I've started an account of the build of my etched signal box on RMWeb http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... try2933235. Going in fits and starts as time permits.

For anyone who is interested, I have spent the past month or so (with a break while I succumbed to Aussie flu) fitting point rodding to Kirkallanmuir using the etched stools described by fellow 2MM Scale Association member Laurie Adams in the latest MRJ. The results can be seen at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... try3067773 and following posts. The fact that the Caley boxed in much of the cranks, compensators etc. saved me modelling those, but the 'boxes' themselves were a bit fiddly to make!

More encouragement for the rest of us, Jim, thanks.
Delighted to know of at least one layout which will demonstrate the specialised point locking devised by the Caledonian Signal Engineer.

The S & T Dept have now finished their work at Kirkallanmuir, fitting signal wire postshttp://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... try3352160 and http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... try3376435 followed by telegraph poles http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index. ... try3384958. All, hopefully, adding to the Caledonian atmosphere.
