Suggestions for power controller

Post by John Paton »

I have decided to plunge back into the world of railway modelling after about 45 years of abstinence. Can anyone recommend a power controller that will operated 2 - 3 separate tracks, 00, not DCC, and not break the bank?

First of all DO NOT GET A FEEDBACK CONTROLLER. Modern model locomotives (such as the Bachmann CR ‘812’ Class) often have coreless motors which do not like feedback controllers.
There are only two manufacturers of three track controllers, Morley Controllers and Gaugemaster. Both are high quality, neither are particularly cheap but are around the same price as a new locomotive, and the idea of controlling an expensively locomotive and train with a cheap controller doesn’t make sense.
Both make a four track analogue DC controller.
Gaugemaster controllers have a lifetime guarantee and are what are usually found being used at exhibitions.
Morley Controllers come with the addition of a couple of plug in hand held controllers and apparently very good after sales support.
Hope this helps.

Brian.
