As we move forward into 2021 and our new trading relationships with the EU this snip from the 1913 WTT reminds us that there is little new in the challenges of international trade...

A splendid illustration, Sinclair.

As an aside, I worked on the Harwich - Zeebrugge train ferry service around 1965, and can recall that azalea and azalea indica brands of flowers were imported. The British customs would nod one type through, but in the case of the other, every box of flowers had to be taken out of the wagon, produced to the view of the Customs Watcher, and then re-stowed, at considerable cost and time. I never did learn why, but you just accepted those things in those pre-EU days.
