Fish, Fruit & Milk Van Lettering for Specific Traffic

Post by RossB » Mon Nov 18, 2019 11:04 am

I am currently in the process of building some models of Fish, Fruit and Milk vans to D30 and D39 and was planning on lettering them as shown in the wagon book (p80, p175 and p177). Would anyone have any thoughts on the colour of the lettering? One of the Mitchell's tobacco vans is in the all over brown livery with light coloured lettering; yellow/chrome? The vans lettered for Lipton's, Waddell's and the other Mitchell's all have white upper panels with dark lettering of a similar tone to the lower panels. The lettering on all three goes over the beading so presumably it would be a different colour to stand out?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hello Ross

As I said on p.79 the brown vans were lettered in medium chrome yellow according to the SLS publication. On scant photographic evidence the white panelled vans the large letters were in a dark colour and may have had shading. All the photos are out of focus when enlarged so you can't tellfor certain whether they were shaded or not. The running numbers aand company initials were standrad coaching stock style.
