Caledonian Railway Locomotive C.R 419

Published by the Caledonian Railway Association (CRA) and Scottish Railway Preservation Society (SRPS), setting out the story of this locomotive from the day it was outshopped from St Rollox in 1907 to re-entering service on the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway in November 2018.

The book also covers a brief history of the SRPS, the development of the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway and some of the special visitors and events held over some 60 years.

With a brief biography of John F. McIntosh, the locomotive’s designer and with detailed photographs, drawings and diagrams, the book will appeal to railway enthusiasts, conservationists, historians, modellers and to those who have enjoyed a train ride behind her.

The book comprises 80 pages of text and illustrations, 295 mm. by 210 mm., printed on gloss art paper with colour card covers and is lavishly illustrated with some 220 coloured and monochrome photographs, diagrams and drawings, illustrating many of the internal parts of the locomotive which are not visible to the visitors. Other photographs illustrate it working trains at a number of locations and events on various heritage railway in addition to showing the development of the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway from a brownfield site into a typical Scottish country branch line.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will assist in maintaining the Locomotive so that it may be enjoyed by future generations.
